Miyazaki Prefecture is located in the southeastern part of Kyushu, Japan, facing the Pacific Ocean. It borders Oita Prefecture to the north, Kumamoto Prefecture to the west, and Kagoshima Prefecture to the south, and its capital and largest city is Miyazaki City.

Miyazaki Prefecture has many traces of people having settled there since the Jomon period, about 25,000 years ago. Since the Nara period, it has been known as Hyuga Province, and during the Meiji period, it was part of Kagoshima Prefecture, before becoming an independent prefecture in 1883 and becoming Miyazaki Prefecture.

Takachiho Gorge is a beautiful valley where the Gokase River flows, with cliffs up to 100 meters high.
